Brett Frantini is ready to handle the SteepleCats’ pitching staff behind the plate in 2011 after completing his junior year with the Northern Illinois Huskies. Frantini is known for his defensive abilities with a rocket right arm that will keep opposing baserunners at bay during the SteepleCats tenth season in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
In 2011, Frantini played in 30 games for the Huskies with 27 starts. For the year, he batted .211 (19-for-90) and showed some pop with 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Frantini also scored nine runs and added 12 walks to post a .304 on-base percentage. It is worth noting that most of his numbers were put up in conference games against Mid-American Conference foes. He was dangerous with 9 hits in 26 at-bats (.346 average) against left-handed pitching and was one of the team’s better hitters with a .279 clip with men on base. Behind the plate, he threw out eight of the 37 baserunners who attempted to steal on him.
Frantini was a quiet contributor during his sophomore year of 2010 in which he hit .273 with 3 home runs and 15 RBIs in 40 starts. He also added four doubles and 13 runs scored, finishing the season with a solid .364 on-base percentage. Frantini also moonlighted as a pitcher and had success in five appearances out of the bullpen, striking out 6 in four innings of work to sport a 2.25 ERA. Once again, he brought his A game to weekend series and hit .301 in conference games.
During his freshman year in 2009, Frantini batted .231, tallying four runs, six hits, six RBIs, a double, and four walks in 18 games, including eight starts. He was hit by a pitch in his first collegiate plate appearance against North Florida on February 22. Four days later, Frantini slapped a two-run single in his first official at-bat against Pac-10 horse Oregon State.
Born on February 7, 1990…Son of Thomas and Renee Frantini…Majoring in Education…
